MCCLENDON HONORED AS 2003 AFFILIATE OF THE YEAR
By Mandi Harding
Glenn McClendon, vice president of Sun State Components of Nevada was honored at
last monthâs FCA quarterly membership luncheon as its 2003 Affiliate Member of
the Year.
McClendon, nominated by his peers earlier in 2004, was unaware he would be the
recipient of the FCAâs annual award.
ãIt is such an honor to receive, this award. Certainly many FCA members are
deserving of this, and what a surprise it is for it to be mine this year,ä said
McClendon.
Criteria for this award include attendance at quarterly luncheon meetings,
participation in FCA events and fundraisers and an overall willingness to
identify and resolve issues impacting the framing industry.
McClendon moved to Las Vegas from California in 1991, with the goal of obtaining
a position in general management. He searched for a position that would afford
him the opportunity to assert himself in the direction of growth and
advancement.
ãI worked with Glenn on many issues over the years and he is the type of person
that has excelled at keeping his finger on the pulse of issues and trends in our
industry,ä said FCA board member, Ryan Stewart, ãIn short, he is the epitome of
everything the FCA represents.ä
McClendon has served on the FCA board for the last two years and has not only
put his money where his mouth is, concerning offering up financial support to
FCAâs objectives, but has just short of strong-armed others to do the same.
Besides FCA involvement, McClendon has proven himself a true activist through
his participation with the Wood Truss Council of America and at the helm of the
Southern Nevada Components and Manufacturers Association as its president for
2004.
With all of his extracurricular activities, McClendon still runs a successful
business by overseeing all office and yard employees, departments, and
supervising all operations including, scheduling, accounting, design, sales and
purchasing.
ãGlenn is a go-getter. In the past, he has participated in drywall ridging and
cracking joint committee meetings between FCA and the Drywall Contractors
Association. He has kept abreast of recent code adoptions that impact the truss
and framing companies, and is currently active on a collaborative committee to
seek change in IBC 2000 and 2003 truss loading language,ä said Richard Thomas,
FCA 2004 president. ãProbably the most resounding characteristic about Glenn is
that he doesnât give up mid-stream, he follows his passion and concern all the
way through until the end. Then of course, heâs already hot with the next matter
to be undertaken.ä

Gary Hardy and John Seely from Hardy Frames, Inc. attended the May 19 FCA
luncheon to mingle with local framing industry contractors and to show support
for their associate Maged Diab, PE, who provided attendees knowledge on the
companyâs sheer wall system.
Hardy is the inventor of the Hardy Frame shear wall system, and is currently the
CEO of Hardy Frames, Inc. He is a licensed general contractor with over 25 years
of experience. He invented the Hardy Frame to improve and simplify the
specification and building process with regard to shear walls. He is credited
with creating the category of pre-fabricated shear walls.
Seely is the regional sales manger for Hardy Frames, Inc. John has over 20 years
of experience in the building industry. John has worked as a framer and a
builder for many years in the Central California market and as a Regional
Representative for James Hardie Industries (the other Hardy) just before joining
Hardy Frames, Inc.
Diab, is president of Hardy Frames. Before joining the company, he worked in
various capacities at MiTek Industries (Hardy Framesâ parent company) including
chief structural engineer.
ãThe Hardy Frame shear wall system is the answer to todayâs demanding shear wall
requirements. Concisely, it is a fully engineered and tested light-gauge steel
panel deigned to resist earthquake and wind loads. It may replace plywood shear
walls in both wood and steel-frame construction, and is perhaps most importantly
simple and effective to use,ä concluded Diab.
